1.5 million PlayStation 4s shipped in three months ended September 30, 2020.
Worldwide total shipments for PlayStation 4 have reached 113.6 million, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2020.
A total of 1.5 million PlayStation 4 units were shipped during the three months ended September 30, 2020, which is down 1.3 million from the 2.8 million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year.
For its Game & Network Services Segment, Sony increased its forecast from 2,500 billion yen (approx. USD $23.5 billion) in sales and 240 billion yen (approx. USD $2.26 billion) in operating income for the fiscal year ended March 30, 2021 to 2,600 billion yen (approx. USD $24.9 billion) in sales and 300 billion yen (approx. USD $2.87 billion) in operating income.
Here are a couple of additional statistics:
- There are 45.9 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of September 30, 2020, which is up nine million from the 36.9 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- PlayStation 4 software sold 80.9 million units in the second quarter of fiscal year 2020, which is up 10.3 million from the 70.6 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 12.4 million units were first-party titles, which is up 6.1 million from to the 6.3 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 59 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 45 percent the previous year.
Update 8:30 a.m.: Corrected total sales from 113.8 million to 113.6 million. Sony adjusted sales from its previous fiscal report down 0.2 million a few days after publication, which we were not aware of at the time of publishing.
