MTN, Ashesi and Leti Arts Join Forces to Build Ghana’s Next Generation of Game Developers

MTN Ghana, Ashesi University and Leti Arts have signed an agreement to establish a dedicated game lab at Ashesi University, creating a new space for students to learn and develop games.
The announcement was made during the MTN Gaming Conference 2026, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The new game lab is expected to give students access to professional game-development tools and provide a more direct pathway into game development.
Bringing Game Development Into the University

Game development in Ghana has largely grown through independent developers, small studios, online communities and people learning through their own projects.
The new partnership brings that development into the university environment.
Through the proposed game lab, students will be able to explore game development while receiving training and working with professional tools.
The aim is to give students practical skills that can eventually be applied to real game projects and careers within the industry.
Connecting Students With the Gaming Industry
The partnership also creates an opportunity to connect academic learning with the wider gaming ecosystem.
Ghana already has developers and studios working on locally created games, while organisations across the industry continue to explore ways of developing more talent.
A dedicated university game lab could provide another route for students interested in becoming programmers, designers, artists, producers and other professionals within game development.
The announcement also comes as gaming continues to receive more attention from major companies and institutions in Ghana.
Part of MTN’s Bigger Gaming Push

The game lab was one of the major announcements made at the MTN Gaming Conference 2026.
The conference brought together game developers, esports stakeholders, educators, technology executives, investors, media and other members of the gaming ecosystem.
For MTN, the focus was not simply on gaming as entertainment but also on the opportunities around education, talent development, business and the creative economy.
The partnership with Ashesi and Leti Arts fits into that direction by focusing specifically on developing talent.
What Happens Next?

The announcement is the beginning of the process. The success of the game lab will ultimately depend on how the programme is implemented and the opportunities it creates for students.
For Ghana’s growing game-development community, having a university-based facility dedicated to game development could provide another important pathway for young people looking to enter the industry.
It also gives students an opportunity to start developing their skills while still in school and potentially connect with the studios, companies and organisations already working in Ghana’s gaming ecosystem.
As the MTN Gaming Conference moves beyond its announcements and into implementation, the new MTN × Ashesi Game Lab will be one of the initiatives GGN will be watching closely.
