Kingdom Hearts IV Gets Late 2027 Release Window as Coco Joins the Adventure

Kingdom Hearts IV is officially set to launch in late 2027, with Square Enix confirming that the highly anticipated action RPG will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The announcement comes as the Kingdom Hearts franchise approaches its 25th anniversary and gives fans a clearer look at what is next for Sora and his friends.
Sora’s Journey Continues in Quadratum

Kingdom Hearts IV picks up with Sora awakening in Quadratum, a mysterious modern metropolis that looks very different from the Disney-inspired worlds fans have become accustomed to.
Separated from his friends and seemingly trapped in this unfamiliar reality, Sora searches for a way back to his own world.
Meanwhile, Donald and Goofy have their own mission. The pair head to the Underworld in search of clues that could help them locate Sora.
The new setting continues the game’s shift into a more modern and realistic visual style while keeping the fantasy elements that have defined the franchise.
Disney and Pixar’s Coco Joins Kingdom Hearts

One of the biggest surprises from the announcement is the confirmation that Disney and Pixar’s Coco will appear in Kingdom Hearts IV.
The addition of Coco expands the series’ growing collection of Disney and Pixar properties and opens up plenty of possibilities for Sora to explore the Land of the Dead and interact with characters from the film.
The world also fits naturally into the themes that have long been central to Kingdom Hearts, particularly friendship, family, memories and the connection between life and death.
A Faster and More Dynamic Combat System
Square Enix is also promising changes to the game’s combat.
Sora will be able to combine attacks and magic while building combos through a new battle feature. The Keyblade also returns with new transformations and unique attacks designed to give players more freedom in combat.
The goal appears to be a faster and more flexible system that allows players to adapt Sora’s abilities to their preferred playstyle.
PC players will be able to purchase the game through Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store.
A New Era for Kingdom Hearts
The announcement gives fans something that has been missing for some time: a confirmed release window.
While late 2027 is still more than a year away, the confirmation of the launch period, alongside the reveal of Coco, suggests that Square Enix is preparing to move Kingdom Hearts IV into a much more visible phase of its development.
With Sora trapped in Quadratum, Donald and Goofy searching the Underworld, and a new Pixar world joining the franchise, Kingdom Hearts IV is shaping up to be one of the biggest entries in the series yet.
For longtime fans, the wait continues—but at least there is now a window to look forward to.
