Geralt of Rivia is heading back to the Continent, but this time his return comes with more than a simple visual upgrade.
CD Projekt RED has announced The Witcher 3 Remastered, a major overhaul of the acclaimed RPG that will bring improved visuals, performance, combat, movement and several gameplay changes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
The Witcher 3 Remastered launches on September 29, 2026, and there is some particularly good news for existing players: eligible owners will receive the upgrade for free.
The announcement was made alongside the reveal of a brand-new expansion, Songs of the Past, which is scheduled for 2027.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Is More Than a Visual Upgrade
CD Projekt RED is treating the Remastered release as a broader upgrade to Geralt’s adventure rather than simply pushing the game’s graphics to a higher resolution.
The new version will introduce improvements to visuals and performance, while also making changes to several core gameplay systems.
Players can expect enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new Witcher Sign effects, revamped mount handling and smarter monster behaviour.
The skill tree is also being reworked, while new features such as transmogrification, an expanded photo mode and new finishers are being added.
For players who have spent hundreds of hours exploring the Continent, these changes could make the return to Velen, Novigrad and Skellige feel considerably different.

The Remastered version includes a substantial list of upgrades:

Existing owners of the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and supported PC platforms will receive the Remastered upgrade at no additional cost.
Songs of the Past Introduces a New Region
The bigger surprise may be what comes next.
CD Projekt RED has also unveiled Songs of the Past, a new expansion for The Witcher 3 that is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The expansion introduces Letten, a completely new region filled with rural traditions, folklore, festivals and harvest celebrations.
Naturally, the peaceful setting doesn’t stay peaceful for long.
Beneath Letten’s idyllic surface lies a dark secret, and Geralt will have to confront previously unseen enemies as an ancient evil begins to emerge from its long slumber.
The first teaser for Songs of the Past was shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live, giving fans their first glimpse at the new adventure.
The Witcher 3’s Existing Expansions Are Now Free
CD Projekt RED also dropped an unexpected gift for existing players.
The company’s original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now available for free to current owners of The Witcher 3.
That’s a significant move considering both expansions are regarded as some of the strongest additional content released for the game.
It also gives newer players plenty of content to get through before The Witcher 3 Remastered arrives on September 29.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Is Coming to Battle.net
There is also a new partnership behind the release.
CD Projekt RED and Blizzard Entertainment are bringing The Witcher 3 Remastered and Songs of the Past to Battle.net, expanding the number of PC storefronts where players can access the game.
Players who purchase the expansion through Battle.net will also receive a special Geralt-inspired skin for Diablo IV.
More details about the collaboration are expected during BlizzCon in September.
Why The Witcher 3 Remastered Matters for Fans
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally released in 2015, yet more than a decade later, CD Projekt RED is still finding ways to bring players back to Geralt’s story.
The Remastered edition is particularly interesting because it combines technical improvements with changes to gameplay systems that players have known for years.
Then there is Songs of the Past.
Rather than simply remastering an old game and leaving it there, CD Projekt RED is using the return of The Witcher 3 to expand its world with a completely new region and another story for Geralt.
