Pokémon turns 25 in 2021.
The Pokemon Company teased its Pokemon 25th anniversary celebrations during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan today.
The Pokemon franchise debuted with the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green on February 27, 1996 in Japan. It will celebrate its 25th anniversary on February 27, 2021.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance saw a troupe of Pikachu dance to the original theme song of Pokemon in Herald Square, and ended with Pokemon Trainers unfurling a massive banner unveiling the official logo for Pokemon‘s 25th anniversary (pictured above).
This year also marked the 20th consecutive year in which a giant Pikachu balloon participated in the parade.
The Pokemon Company will share more information about the “very special upcoming celebration” for Pokemon‘s 25th anniversary at a later date.
