When I first heard about Sweave, I thought, “Ah, this one be some Subway Surfers remix!” But after just a few runs, I realized it’s much more than that. This is no ordinary endless runner—Sweave takes African creativity and culture and places it right in your hands.
Inspired by the intricate weaving of the kente cloth, the game blends fun with education- giving players the chance to dodge obstacles while experiencing the beauty of African symbols and designs.
Gameplay: Fast Hands, Fast Moves
The gameplay is simple and addictive: dodge obstacles, pick up power-ups, and rack up points. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. The Boss Masks add a proper challenge. These bosses randomly drop objects to mess you up, so you’ll need to stay sharp at every stage.
That said, after a few runs, the game can feel a bit same-same. New players will love it, but long-time runners might find the repetitive levels a little boring.
Visuals: Pure African Beauty
Ei, the visuals alone are giving! Leti Arts didn’t come to play with this one. From the bold kente-inspired backgrounds to the symbols like Gye Nyame and Theh, everything is rich with African culture.
The color schemes? Perfect. Whether you have sharp eyes or are color-blind, you’ll enjoy the seamless designs. This game doesn’t just look good—it’s a visual ode to Africa’s creativity and rich heritage.
Music: Pick Your Jam
This is one of the most African things about Sweave—freedom to choose your vibe. Music is a big part of our world and Sweave did not disappoint with it. The game comes with a music library where you can select what fits your mood. Whether you want afrobeats or something chill, it’s all there. Big ups to Leti Arts for giving us control over the soundtrack! (raise the pay of the sound person asap! the music is fire!!)
What Could Use a Little Tweaking
- Gameplay Variety: After a while, the levels start to feel the same. Adding new stages or a twist to the gameplay would go a long way.
- Symbol Education: Learning about the symbols after crashing into them feels a bit off. Maybe a quick tutorial or symbol gallery could help players understand the meanings before they play.
