Okabe Rintaro has been preserving the peace in Akihabara as the hero of justice, Alpacaman. With the Time Leap Machine and the power of D-mail at his fingertips, solving crimes is like shooting fish in a barrel. He wears an alpaca suit that was handmade by Shiina Mayuri, the only person who knows who he truly is underneath, to conceal his identity when he fights criminals who threaten Akihabara.
One morning, as he was taking a nap to recover from battle fatigue, Makise Kurisu appears before him in mourning. All he can do is listen as she tells him the dreadful news.
Scenario by Vio Shimokura.
Hashida Itaru: The Caged Bird Sings
On the night Hashida Itaru attended Comic Market, a thread was posted on the popular forum known as @channel. The thread was about someone named Chopstick Girl who was given a mysterious note at the convention. It seemed to contain a coded message, and Itaru tries to solve it along with other mysteries. When the memo is eventually decoded, Chopstick Girl posts a reply stating that she went to Akihbara to confirm the location of a bomb, but unfortunately, she is called a troll and leaves the thread indefinitely.
Eventually, people who followed the thread began to lose interest, but Itaru wasn’t convinced this was the work of some troll. Utilizing his hacking skills and the support of his fellow lab members, Itaru manages to track down Chopstick Girl’s location.
Scenario by Naotaka Hayashi. Concept by Masahiro Yokotani.
Makise Kurisu: Vermillion Soteria
When Makise Kuris finally completes the Time Leap Machine, a gadget with the ability to send memories into the past, Okabe Rintaro appears before her. He had been through countless time leaps in an attempt to avoid Shiina Mayuri’s inescapable death, and the repeated failures and despair seemed to have drained all the life out of him. By the time Kurisu manages to get Okabe to explain the situation, Mayuri has already been kidnaped by the Rounders. They consult with Yukita Akiha, Faris NyanNyan’s father and a man of great influence, but they aren’t able to resolve their predicament.
Then they learn the news of Mayuri’s death. Grieving over the loss of her friend, Kurisu curses herself for not being able to prevent it.
Suddenly, her phone rings; it’s from her father, Makise Shouichi, who goes by Dr. Nakabachi in the public eye.
The time machine embedded in Radi-Kan was damaged due to the recent heavy rain. Suzuha was on the brink of despair as she realized she wouldn’t be able to go further back into the past. That’s when “they” appeared. Standing before her were two other Suzuhas: One was dressed in military fatigues and had a calm demeanor, while the other had a bubbly personality and wore a maid outfit. It was a mystery whether they were memories from another worldline or merely Suzuha’s hallucinations.
But with help from her other two versions ans Hashida Itaru, she manages to fix the broken time machine. With an unexpected amount of free time, she decides to spend some moments with the lab members, as well as her father, Itaru, in particular.
Tennouji Yuugi (also known as Mr. Braun) owns a house and the building that contains the CRT store; but whether or not his beloved daughter Nae feels comfortable in their two homes weighs heavily on his mind. One day, he buys a lotto ticket for fun and ends up winning the first-place prize. After much deliberation on how to spend his newfound fortune—30,000,000 yen to be exact—he decides to remodel the CRT building.
After a year of construction, it’s finally finished, but Nae still seems downcast. Filled with regret, Yuugo decides to take Okabe up on his suggestion to send a D-mail for a second chance. What is upsetting Nae, and how can Yuugo make his daughter happy?
Faris NyanNyan catches wind of disquieting rumors regarding supernatural occurrences in Akihabara. It was unacceptable for her to remain idle as these rumors cast a shadow over her beloved city. So she suits up in an outfit Mayuri made for her, taking on the identity of Chat-Noir, defender of justice and guardian of Akihabara, to investigate with Suzuha.
But as her investigation continues, she realizes the rumors were fabricated by the promotion association of the shopping district in front of the station. Having great influence on the urban development in Akihabara, she finds it upsetting that the adults made such arrangements without consulting her.
Then, as if to add insult to injury, Suzuha tells Faris she will be leaving Akihabara. This causes Faris to shut herself out from the world.
Ever since Luka witnessed Mayuri die before her very eyes, she spends her days in deep sorrow. Memories of the happy times she spent with Mayuri continuously replay in her mind, along with the words Okabe Rintaro said to her: “You actually… used to be a boy.”
She was reborn as a girl because the Luka from another world line sent a D-mail to alter the past. Just like her biological change, there were various factors that altered the course of history and ultimately affected the present, with Mayuris death becoming an unavoidable part of fate as a result.
Okabe has already given up hope, insisting that he is the one to blame, not her. Even still, ravaged by guilt, Luka requests if she can leap through time, just so she could, at the very least, grant Mayuri’s wish: showing Mayuri how she looks in cosplay.
Mayuri could sense something has been off about Okabe and Kurisu as of late, and suspected she was the reason for the troubled looks on their faces. Determined to find out what exactly is going on, Mayuri pleads with Kurisu to confide in her if something has been bothering them. Reluctant at first, Kurisu eventually speaks up after seeing the resolve in Mayuri’s eyes.
She reveals that the only way to save Mayuri from dying is for Okabe to leap to another world line where she will die instead, and that she has already accepted her fate.
After hearing truth, Mayuri trembles. Mayuri tries coming to terms with it, but can’t stand the thought of Kurisu sacrificing herself. As Kurisu feigns a smile trying to comfort Mayuri, Mayuri decides what she needs to do.
As a member of SERN’s private force known as the Rounders, Moeka has been ordered from FB, her superior and maternal figure, to infiltrate and monitor the Future Gadget Laboratory. After informing FB that the PhoneWave (name subject to change) is a time machine, she receives orders to destroy it and sabotage the lab members’ relationships.
Moeka was cautious of the eccentric lab members at first, but she is eventually touched by Kurisu and Mayuri’s kindness and starts to question her orders from FB.
FB’s orders begin escalate, however. Moeka is eventually told to join the task force that will raid the Future Gadget Laboratory and kill its members.
Mayuri disappears and won’t answer Okabe’s calls, so he sends a D-mail to his past self to warn Mayuri not to go outside. After the world line shifts, he confirms Mayuri’s safety, but she ends up mistakenly causing a fire.
Okabe sends another D-mail to prevent the fire, and the world line shifts yet again. Though the lab hasn’t burned down this time around, he finds bloodstains on the floor. Expecting the worst, Okabe loses sight of Mayuri once again and is attacked by men in black capes.
Mayuri’s kidnapping, the fire in the lab, the bloodstains, men in black capes… As the world lines continue to shift, the crises across these three world lines eventually converge.
