Team Cherry reveals a 2026 release for the Switch 2 edition and drops a surprise

Team Cherry has officially announced that the modern classic Hollow Knight is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Slated for a release in 2026, the next-gen edition will be a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game on the original Switch.
According to the developers, the Hollow Knight 2 the Switch 2 Edition will feature all the visual and technical enhancements developed for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Players can expect high frame rate modes, increased resolutions, and additional graphical effects that take advantage of the new hardware.

New Features Playable Now on PC
In preparation for the Switch 2 launch, Team Cherry is actively updating current versions of the game to bring them up to speed. While console updates are on the horizon, PC users on Steam and GOG can access these changes right now via the public-beta branches.
The update includes significant quality-of-life improvements and long-awaited technical fixes. Here is what is currently available in the public-beta:

- Ultrawide Support: Added native support for 21:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios.
- Menu Pausing: The game now properly pauses gameplay when opening inventory menus.
- Controller Support: Upgraded to the Unity Input System for broader compatibility (Legacy input is still available in the options).
- Visual Tweaks: Added a dithering effect and options to help reduce color banding.
- Gameplay Adjustments: Reduced the stagger bounce height for Grey Prince Zote and updated the collider on Sly’s Great Slash to better match the animation.
- Audio QoL: Salubra’s Blessing now automatically deactivates once you reach max Soul.
- Bug Fixes: Smoother map panning and a fix for the softlock issue in the City of Tears Grub room.
Hollow Knight is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. We will keep you posted as more details on the Switch 2 release—and the elusive Silksong—emerge.
